EMDR Therapy for Childhood Trauma and Attachment Wounds

When Early Experiences Continue to Affect Adult Life

Many of the difficulties we experience in adulthood can be linked to our earliest relationships and experiences.

You may find yourself struggling with self-esteem, relationships, anxiety, trust, emotional overwhelm or a persistent feeling of not being good enough, despite understanding these difficulties logically.

Often these experiences have their roots in childhood trauma or attachment wounds.

What Are Attachment Wounds?

Attachment refers to the emotional bonds we develop with those who care for us during childhood.

When our emotional needs are consistently met, we develop a sense of safety, worth and trust.

When relationships are characterised by neglect, criticism, inconsistency, emotional unavailability, abuse or loss, we may develop ways of coping that help us survive at the time but continue to affect us in adulthood.

How EMDR Can Help

EMDR helps people process experiences that continue to influence how they feel about themselves and the world around them.

As traumatic memories and experiences are processed, many people find that distress reduces and long-held negative beliefs begin to shift.

Rather than remaining stuck in patterns developed for survival, individuals often experience greater freedom, confidence and emotional resilience.

An Attachment-Informed Approach

My work integrates EMDR with an understanding of attachment and developmental trauma.

This means paying careful attention to safety, emotional regulation and the therapeutic relationship whilst helping clients process experiences that continue to affect them today.

Therapy is tailored to each individual and progresses at a pace that feels manageable.
